This update represents violence in Nigeria and related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger from June 17 to June 23, 2023. 
The map depicts deaths by state. Borno State, in Nigeria's North East, is the epicenter of Boko Haram-related violence, which has also spilled into neighboring Adamawa and Yobe states, among others.

Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from June 17 to June 23, 2023. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • June 17: Communal violence led to thirteen deaths in Barkin Ladi, Plateau.
  • June 17: Bandits killed five in Zaria, Kaduna.
  • June 18: Police killed five bandits in Batsari, Katsina. 
  • June 18: Communal violence resulted in twenty deaths in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) and two deaths in Mangu LGA in Plateau. 
  • June 18: Herders killed two and abudcted one in Ivo, Ebonyi. 
  • June 19: A vigilante killed three gunmen in Ihiala, Anambra. 
  • June 19: Kidnappers abducted three in Ifelodun, Kwara. 
  • June 19: Kidnappers abducted two in Yagba East, Kogi.  
  • June 20: Communal violence led to seven deaths in Riyom LGA and twenty-three deaths in Mangu LGA in Plateau. 
  • June 20: Kidnappers abducted three in Akwanga, Nassarawa. 
  • June 21: The Nigerian Air Force killed "scores" (est. at forty) of Boko Haram militants in Bama, Borno. 
  • June 22: Boko Haram killed seven in Mafa LGA and one in Jere LGA in Borno.  
  • June 22: Bandits killed three and abducted "scores" (est. at twenty) in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna. 
  • June 22: Police killed three robbers in Warri North, Delta. 
  • June 23: Communal violence led to three deaths in Riyom, Plateau. 
  • June 23: Kidnappers abducted four in Ningi, Bauchi. 
  • June 23: Kidnappers killed one and abducted three in Isin, Kwara. 
  • June 23: Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) killed "several" (est. at ten) Boko Haram militants in Magumeri, Borno.
  • June 9-23: Gunmen killed fifty in Oguta, Imo.
